2/7/2024 0 Comments Reflection nebula detectionEmission is seen surrounding 17 Tau, 20 Tau, 23 Tau, and 25 Tau in all four bands, coextensive with the visible reflection nebulosity, and extending as far as 30 arcminutes from the illuminating stars. Surface brightness maps at 12, 25, 60, and 100 microns were made of a 2.5 deg x 2.5 deg area of the reflection nebulae in the Pleiades by coadding IRAS scans of this region. IRAS surface brightness maps of reflection nebulae in the PleiadesĬastelaz, Michael W. Charge coupled device (CCD) images of NGC2023 and NGC 7023 were obtained with the CfA CCD detector on the 0.6 mm telescope of the Whipple Observatory. Spectrographic observations were performed on the nebulae NGC 2023 and NGC 7023, using the intensified Reticon scanner (IRS) of Kitt Peak National Observatory on the N0-2 0.9 mm telescope. Recent spectrographic studies of extended red emission (ERE) seen in the 0.6 to 0.9 micron spectral region in many reflection nebulae have shown fluorescence by amorphous hydrogenated carbon to be the most probable cause of the ERE. Spectroscopy and CCD-photography of extended red emission in reflection nebulae The possibility of continuous fluorescence contributions to the surface brightness is also considered. Multiple scattering, anisotropic phase functions, and illumination by the general star field are considered, and the albedo of reflection nebular particles appears to be the same as that for interstellar particles in general. A computational technique was developed which permits the use of fits to the observed m-log a values to determine the albedo of particles composing reflection nebulae, providing only that a phase function and average optical thickness are assumed. The relation between the apparent angular extent of a reflection nebula and the apparent magnitude of its illuminating star was reconsidered under a less restrictive set of assumptions. The albedo of particles in reflection nebulae Attention is given to a wide variety of possible emission mechanisms. The brightness level shown by two of the nebulae at 2.2 microns was too high to be easily accounted for on the basis of reflected light. All three nebulae were found to have similar near-infrared colors, despite widely different colors of their illuminating stars. Observations of three classical visual reflection nebulae were conducted in the wavelength range from 1.25 to 2.2 microns, taking into account NGC 7023, 2023, and 2068. The present investigation is concerned with observations which were begun with the objective to extend to near-infrared wavelengths the study of grains in reflection. In the past, reflection nebulae have provided an astrophysical laboratory well suited for the study of the reflection properties of interstellar dust grains at visual and ultraviolet wavelengths. The near-infrared continuum emission of visual reflection nebulae Concluding, the distinctly different astronomical environments of a reflection nebula, H II region, and planetary nebula are reflected in their PAH emission spectra. The choice of extinction curve proves to be critical. Using the determined template spectra from NGC 7023 to fit the emission in all three objects yields, upon inspection of the Structure SIMilarity maps, satisfactory results. Template spectra for the PAH charge and size subclasses are determined for each object and shown to favorably compare. Here the 6.2/11.2 μm PAH band strength ratio is successfully calibrated against its database equivalent: the ratio in all three objects. The resulting charge breakdown results are combined with those derived using the traditional PAH band strength ratio approach, which interprets particular PAH band strength ratios as proxies for PAH charge. The polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon (PAH) emission is broken down into PAH charge and size subclass contributions using a database-fitting approach. Low-resolution Spitzer-IRS spectral map data of a reflection nebula (NGC 7023), H II region (M17), and planetary nebula (NGC 40), totaling 1417 spectra, are analyzed using the data and tools available through the NASA Ames PAH IR Spectroscopic Database. It also pops up in places you might not expect it, so you might not realize just how much sugar your kids (and you) are eating in foods that aren't desserts. Sugar is often added because it helps make packaged foods irresistible.Īnd it's not just in cookies and candies. For example, brown sugar, corn syrup, dextrose and high-fructose corn syrup are all sugar by another name. Throw them in an insulated container and voila, you've got school lunch.Īdded sugars can appear by other names, notes Christopher Gardner, a nutrition researcher at Stanford University. Another easy option is to cook one large meal like beans and rice and save the leftovers. Pre-packed lunches are easy to grab-and-go, but they can pack a lot of sodium, too. So how can you make healthier choices without breaking the bank - or cooking late into the night? We've got advice from experts, plus some smart swaps for kids' favorite junk foods. After all, there's a reason why busy families like them: They're convenient, tasty and affordable. Zhang says there's enough evidence that it makes sense to reduce the amount of these foods that kids eat, especially because dietary habits adopted in childhood often carry over into adulthood.īut that doesn't mean you need to eliminate ultra-processed foods altogether. Though the research is more limited in kids, some studies have found a link to health concerns such as weight gain and higher cholesterol levels. Shots - Health News What we know about the health risks of ultra-processed foodsĪ large body of research has linked high consumption of ultra-processed foods to a host of bad health outcomes in adults, including a higher risk of hypertension, obesity, Type 2 diabetes, some cancers and even dying prematurely from all causes, says Zhang. And they often contain additives like colorings, flavorings, emulsifiers or hydrogenated oils - used to transform the texture, looks and flavor of food. They're usually high in fat, added sugars and salt. They're all what's known as all ultra-processed foods, that is, industrially formulated products made mostly from ingredients extracted or refined from foods. These kinds of quick, convenient, ready-to-heat meals and packaged snacks now dominate the diets of American kids and teens. "My littlest one will eat mac and cheese" - from a box - "every day if he could," says Kevin Hall, a senior investigator at the National Institutes of Health who studies obesity and diabetes. Even health experts do it from time to time. Sometimes, popping a frozen pizza into the oven or microwaving some frozen fish sticks is the quickest, easiest and least expensive way to get a meal on the table that your kids will actually eat. Trust me, I know how exhausting it can be to figure out how to feed your kids a healthy diet while also living in the real world as a busy working parent with limited time and means. Even if they're salted, the higher protein and healthy fats in nuts are an added benefit. Learn shortcuts and smart swaps, like giving them nuts for a snack instead of chips. Cutting back on ultra-processed food in your child's diet doesn't have to be a huge lift. 2/6/2024 0 Comments Dairy queen menu buster barYou might want to avoid Blizzards to prevent any cross-contamination because Dairy Queen warns that several of its Blizzard desserts contain gluten and are all manufactured in the same machine. This flexibility appeals to users and has made this a very popular PDF compressor online for free. For instance, if you need PDF to Word conversion, there's a dedicated tool for that on the other hand, if you just want a generic file conversion option and you go to the PDF conversion tool, you'll see that PDF to Word is an option there as well. PDF2Go is quite an interesting PDF compressor in that a lot of the features are deliberately overlapped with each other to make it convenient for a user to get to their goal in different ways. It does have some very useful tools for creating forms and so on, but no other advanced capabilities can be used to compare it to Acrobat and other PDF editors in that class. If you look at the online version, you'll see much of the same functionality but a highly simplified version of it. Other features of PDFescape include editing, annotations, creating digital signatures, and so on. For physical prints, a lower compression level is recommended. The highest compression level is usually suitable for bulky documents with lots of text and images but also where the images are only meant for online viewing rather than for physical prints. The software lets you choose compression level so you can control the output size by deciding to prioritize size over quality and vice versa. It still has that 'basic-ish' feel about it because it lacks advanced tools like OCR, but as for all other tasks, PDFescape is as good as the rest of the bunch. It was a huge hit in the Squarespace 7.0 Brine templates, but when Squarespace rolled out 7.1 they retired this feature.Įver since Squarespace removed this feature in 7.1, there has been noise in the Squarespace community on how to achieve the Parallax Scrolling effect without having it as an option in the platform. The Parallax Scrolling feature is when the background image moves at a different speed than the content on top. a framework to turn a landscape photograph (left) into a layered game texture (right) with parallax effect.
